Conservation

Conservation Requires Action, Not Decoration.

Our work combines responsible animal management, safe facilities, education, breeding, research support, and collaboration.

Cassowary Conservancy

Responsible Managed-Care Conservation

CCNA maintains cassowaries as part of a long-term managed-care conservation effort. This includes appropriate housing, careful pairing decisions, recordkeeping, veterinary support, and responsible placement with qualified facilities.

Managed populations cannot replace protection of native rainforest habitat. They can, however, preserve knowledge, support research, maintain genetically valuable animals, and create informed advocates for wild cassowaries.

Facility Safety Is Conservation Work

Our primary capital project is a facility modification program designed to strengthen perimeter containment during hurricanes and other natural disasters. The current target is $140,000, beginning with an $8,000 fence reinforcement phase.

Stronger containment protects animals, staff, neighbors, emergency responders, and future guided visitors. It is not glamorous, but it is essential.

Education and Research Support

We provide accurate cassowary education through online content, outreach, media partnerships, and future guided programs. We also preserve appropriate biological specimens for qualified scientific and educational collaboration.

The purpose is straightforward: increase useful knowledge, reduce misinformation, and help more people understand the ecological importance and specialized biology of cassowaries.
